Get Ready for School!!

I'm so excited to get back to school. I have had a great summer in Idaho biking, hiking, reading, and relaxing; however, I am lost without my daily interaction with my students!! I hope you are all eager to learn and become great 5th graders!!
My daily bike ride to Silver Lake!  The scenery is
amazing.  I'm still hoping to see a bear!
The class lists are on the front window of the school. The first day of school is August 22nd and back to school night will be on the 21st at 6:30?  I'm not sure about the time yet.

I can't wait to meet and say hi to all of you at back to school night!!

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!

I wish all my 5th grade students a great summer and a great year in 6th grade!! I will miss you!!

New 5th Grade Students-I am excited to get to know you!!

Please remember to read this summer to avoid the Summer  Slide.
What is the summer slide?  Summer slide refers to the loss of reading skills that results when students  slip out of the practice reading over the summer.
Way to Prevent Summer Slide.
1.  It is suggested that students who read at least six books will not regress over the summer.
2.  Set a time aside each day to read.  Hopefully you will get engaged in the book and enjoy this time.
3.  Visit the library or book store.

I love reading and I am looking forward to you sharing what you have read during the summer?

What is your favorite book you have read?
What book(s) would you recommend to your classmates?
What are your favorite Genres?

Only 32 days left of school!!!

I can't believe this year is almost over. We still have a lot to do before the end of the year.

Science
Finish mealworm experiments before they turn into a pupa. This week we will continue to learn about learned behaviors and instincts.
We will also learn about animal variations and specialized structures.

Math
We will learn about surface area and volume.

If your child is struggling with Geometry please click on the math tab and go to the IA Site. There are games and extra help under the Geometry section.

Writing
We have been taking notes on our presidents and we will begin to write our reports. We will also start looking up information to put on our pizza boxes to display. We are still trying to get enough large pizza boxes.
We are planning on presenting our reports and pizza displays on May 11th 1:00-2:30.
